JD got off a Greyhound bus in the French Quarter and never got back on.

It was supposed to be a layover between Georgia and Texas. An hour of walking turned into years living in the middle of the French Quarter. JD learned which streets to avoid after dark, and how the city never really closes its eyes.

JD writes for readers who want a protagonist who is fierce, snarky, and shows moments of weakness. We are all flawed and still able to grow. Bond of Fire and Ice started with one image: a street kid who burns when she’s angry, who finds out she’s the last of a bloodline that was supposed to protect her but never did. This discovery doesn’t give her power; it makes her a target. Told across multiple points of view, the novel follows a cast in which every character is working an angle, so the found family readers root for has to prove itself rather than be assumed.

JD also writes short stories and flash fiction. Her flash piece “What They Cannot See” appeared in Flash Phantoms, and “Letting Go” received an Honorable Mention in Gemini Magazine’s 2025 short story contest. She currently lives in Panama City Beach, Florida, where she still writes with New Orleans on the mind.

Why I Write Romantasy

I didn’t know it at the time, but the woman who used to come into the coffee shop where I worked, always with a book in her bag, always the same order, was the reason I fell in love with fantasy in the first place. We talked over coffee for months before I ever learned her name. Years later, I saw her photo in an article, and everything clicked. The Vieux Sang Trilogy is my way of saying thank you.
